    About our Catalonia news

Latest news on Catalonia, a region located in the northeast of Spain, with a population of approximately 7.5 million people. The region has its own distinct language, culture, and history, and is known for its vibrant capital city, Barcelona.

In recent years, Catalonia has been at the centre of a political controversy related to its desire for independence from Spain. In 2017, the Catalan regional government held a controversial independence referendum, which was deemed illegal by the Spanish government. The referendum was met with a harsh response from Spanish authorities, leading to a period of political unrest and demonstrations in the region.

In October 2019, several pro-independence leaders were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 9 to 13 years for their role in the referendum, leading to further unrest in the region. However, in early 2020, the new Spanish government led by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez opened up dialogue with Catalan leaders in an attempt to find a political solution to the conflict.

Today, the question of Catalan independence remains unresolved, with ongoing debates and tensions between the Catalan and Spanish governments.
