    Latest news on Tiraspol, the second largest city in Moldova and the capital of the unrecognised Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) or Transnistria. The city is located on the eastern bank of the Dniester River.

    The city has a diverse economy, with industry accounting for 46% of the workforce, followed by services (31%), and agriculture (23%). Major industries include food processing, textiles, electronics, and metallurgy. Tiraspol is home to the Kvint cognac factory, the largest producer of cognac in Moldova. The city also has a university, several colleges, and a technical institute.

    The city has a population of 158,000 (2012 census), ethnic Russians and Ukrainians make up the majority of the population, with Moldovans and Belarusians accounting for the remainder. Tiraspol is the capital of the unrecognised Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), a breakaway state that declared independence from Moldova in 1990. The city functions as the republic's de facto capital and is its largest city.
