    About our Bob Menendez news

Latest news on Bob Menendez, an American politician who serves as the senior United States Senator from New Jersey, a seat he has held since 2006. He is a member of the Democratic Party. First elected to the Senate in 2006, he was reelected in 2012 and 2018.

Bob Menendez and his wife Nadine have been indicted on federal bribery charges in New York. The charges are related to their allegedly corrupt relationship with three businessmen, who are accused of giving them gifts, including gold bars, in exchange for the senator's influence and assistance. The indictment was announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan on Friday, September 22, 2023.

The three businessmen are Fred Daibes, a developer and former bank chairman; Salomon Melgen, an eye doctor and friend of the senator; and Joseph Percoco, a former aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. They are accused of providing the Menendezes with lavish trips, campaign contributions, hotel stays, and other benefits over several years. In return, the senator allegedly intervened on their behalf in various matters involving the Justice Department, the State Department, the Department of Health and Human Services, and other federal agencies.

This is the second time that Menendez has faced corruption charges from the Justice Department. In 2015, he was indicted on similar allegations involving Melgen, but the case ended in a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a verdict. The charges were later dropped by prosecutors after a Supreme Court ruling narrowed the definition of bribery.

Menendez has denied any wrongdoing and vowed to fight the charges. He said he is confident that he will be vindicated and that he will continue to serve the people of New Jersey. He also accused the Justice Department of pursuing a political vendetta against him and his family.
