About our Christian Eriksen news
Latest news on Christian Eriksen, a Danish professional footballer who suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 and currently plays for Manchester United. Prior to European Championships in 2020, Eriksen had played for clubs including Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax. Born in 1992, Eriksen is regarded as one of the most skilful Danish footballers of all-time, and has won Italian and Dutch league titles, as well as a runners-up medal in the Champions League.
While playing for Denmark in his country's opening match of Euro 2020, Eriksen collapsed in the 42nd minute as he was about to receive a throw-in. Having suffered a cardiac arrest, Eriksen received CPR and needed to be resuscitated with a defibrillator on the pitch, before being taken to hospital.
Following his cardiac arrest, Eriksen was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) which is used to continuously monitor his heartbeat. Due to the presence of this implant, the Dane was no longer permitted to play in Italy's Serie A, which resulted in his contract eventually being terminated with Inter Milan.
Just over a month after leaving Italy, Eriksen made a miraculous return to football when he signed a six-month contract with Premier League side Brentford FC. In the following summer, Eriksen was signed by Manchester United on a three-year deal.
