Founded in 1905, the Mainz based club play their home games at the MEWA Arena. With the city of Mainz having close ties with carnival culture, each goal scored by Mainz at home is celebrated with the 'Narrhallamarsch' being played aloud, a famous German carnival tune. The club is known to the locals by two nicknames, 'The 05ers' and 'The Carnival Club'.
