    About our Haitian Politics news

Latest news on Haitian politics, with updates on the current political crisis caused by various coups, regime changes, military juntas and internal conflicts.

Haiti has a long history of political instability, marked by frequent changes in leadership, corruption, and economic challenges. The country has struggled to establish a stable democratic system since gaining independence in 1804.

In July 2021, President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated in his home. His death exacerbated the existing political turmoil and power struggles within the country. Following Moïse's assassination, an interim government led by Prime Minister Ariel Henry was established. However, his leadership faced challenges and opposition, with his legitimacy disputed by various factions.

Haiti was scheduled to hold presidential and legislative elections in September 2021, but they were postponed due to the assassination and subsequent chaos. A formal election date is still yet to be confirmed.

In March 2024, Henry announced his resignation as the country's leader following a wave of gang violence that erupted in Haiti that same month. He will officially step down once a transitional presidential council has been formed following meetings with leaders of Caribbean states and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Stay up-to-date on the current political instability in Haiti with our comprehensive Â鶹´«Ã½ feed. We gather the latest news, expert opinions, and thorough reports from trusted sources, offering a nuanced and well-informed perspective on Haiti's political crisis.
