Latest news on the Brooklyn Nets, a professional basketball team based in Brooklyn, New York. They compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. The team plays its home games at the Barclays Center.
The Nets were founded in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans, a charter franchise of the NBA's rival league, the American Basketball Association (ABA). They moved to Long Island in 1968 and changed their name to the New York Nets. They won two ABA championships in 1974 and 1976, led by Hall of Famer Julius "Dr. J" Erving. In 1976, they joined the NBA as part of the ABA-NBA merger, but had to pay a large fee to the New York Knicks for entering their market. They moved back to New Jersey in 1977 and became the New Jersey Nets.
The Nets reached the NBA Finals twice in 2002 and 2003, with star point guard Jason Kidd, but lost both times. They moved to Brooklyn in 2012 and became the Brooklyn Nets.
