    About our Roman Polanski news

Latest news on Roman Polanski, a Polish-French film director, producer, writer, and actor. He is considered one of the best directors of the 20th century. He is best known for his films Rosemary's Baby (1968), Chinatown (1974), and The Pianist (2002). Polanski has been nominated for five Academy Awards and won one for Best Director.

Polanski was born in Paris, France, to Polish parents, and moved with his family to Poland when he was four years old. He began his film career in Poland, making his directorial debut with Knife in the Water (1962). He moved to France in 1963, and continued his career there, making such films as Repulsion (1965), Cul-de-sac (1966), and The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967).

In 1968, Polanski's pregnant wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by members of the Manson Family. This tragedy had a profound effect on Polanski, and his subsequent films often dealt with themes of loss and violence. In 1974, he made Chinatown, a film noir about the dark underside of Los Angeles. The film was a critical and commercial success, and won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.

In 1977, Polanski was arrested and charged with the rape of a 13-year-old girl. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of statutory rape, and fled the country before he could be sentenced. He has since lived in exile in France, and has continued to make films.
