About our United States Space Command news

Latest news on the United States Space Command (USSPACECOM or SPACECOM), a military organization that oversees and conducts operations in outer space. It is one of the eleven unified commands in the Department of Defense (DoD) and the newest one, established in 2019.

Some of the main missions of USSPACECOM are:

- To protect and defend U.S. and allied interests in space and to provide space capabilities to the joint force.
- To deter aggression and conflict, defend U.S. and allied freedom of action, deliver space combat power, and develop joint warfighters to advance U.S. and allied interests in, from, and through the space domain.
- To provide global situational awareness of the space domain, support ballistic missile defense, enable nuclear command, control, and communication, provide satellite communications, environmental monitoring, military intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance, navigation warfare, command and control, and positioning, navigation and timing.

USSPACECOM is composed of several components from different branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, such as the Space Force, the Air Force, the Army, the Navy, and the Marine Corps. It also works closely with allies and partners, such as Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

USSPACECOM is headquartered at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Its current commander is General James H. Dickinson, who assumed command on August 20, 2020.
