Latest news on John Charles Eastman, an American lawyer and former academic, known for his significant involvement with former President Donald Trump during the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
Eastman advised Trump on maintaining the presidency and participated in attempts to overturn the election. He also penned a controversial op-ed in August 2020 that falsely challenged Kamala Harris's eligibility for U.S. Vice President. Eastman spoke at the White House rally preceding the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, and subsequently urged Vice President Pence to delay certification. In March 2022, a federal judge found Eastman and Trump likely conspired to obstruct Congress on January 6. By December 2022, the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack recommended charging Eastman with obstruction and conspiracy.
On August 1, 2023, he was implicitly named an unindicted co-conspirator in Trump's indictment for conspiring to defraud the United States and related charges. Finally, on August 14, 2023, Eastman was indicted in connection with the 2020 election in Georgia and was later booked into the Fulton County jail.
