    About our Falkland Islands news

Latest current affairs news on the Falkland Islands, with stories on politics, economy and international relations from trusted sources.

The Falkland Islands, located in the South Atlantic Ocean, are a British Overseas Territory comprising approximately 778 islands and islets.

Sovereignty over the Falklands has been a longstanding dispute between the United Kingdom and Argentina. The United Kingdom has maintained de facto control over the archipelago almost continuously since 1833, while Argentina asserts its sovereignty based on historical and geographical factors. This dispute escalated in 1982 when Argentina invaded the islands, leading to the British reaffirming their control two months later at the conclusion of the Falklands War.
