About our Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner news
Latest news on Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, an Argentine lawyer and politician who previously served as the 37th vice president of Argentina. She also served as President of Argentina from 2007 to 2015. She was the second woman to hold the office, after Isabel Perón. She was elected to a four-year term in 2007 and re-elected to a second term in 2011.
Fernández de Kirchner's presidency was marked by high levels of public spending, which helped fuel economic growth in Argentina but also led to high levels of public debt. She also championed a number of left-wing causes, including same-sex marriage and abortion rights. She was widely criticised for her handling of the economy and for her authoritarian style of governance.
In 2022, she was found guilty of 'fraudulent administration'. She was sentenced to six years in prison and a lifetime ban from holding office for corruption.
