About our Deimos news

Latest news on Deimos, one of the two small natural satellites of the planet Mars, along with Phobos. It is named after the Greek god of terror and is the smaller of the two Martian moons, measuring only 12.4 kilometres (7.7 miles) in diameter.

Deimos was discovered on 12 August 1877, by Asaph Hall, an American astronomer. Its orbit around Mars is highly elliptical, and it takes about 30.3 hours to complete one orbit. The surface of Deimos is covered with a layer of regolith, or loose rock and dust, and is heavily cratered.
