    About our Luis Rubiales news

Latest news on Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) and a former professional footballer. He was removed from his role after his behaviour during the FIFA Women's World Cup final on August 20, 2023, where Spain beat England 1-0.

FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Rubiales based on the events that occurred during the final, which may constitute violations of article 13 paragraphs 1 and 2 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. These paragraphs cover "offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play" and "behaving in a way that brings the sport of football and/or FIFA into disrepute". FIFA can impose sanctions on individuals ranging from warnings and fines to suspensions from the sport.

Rubiales has faced heavy criticism after he grabbed his crotch in celebration of Spain's victory, while stood metres away from Spain's Queen Letizia and her teenage daughter Sofia. He then kissed Spain midfielder Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the trophy celebration. Hermoso has called for "exemplary measures" against Rubiales over the kiss.

Rubiales has issued an apology, saying that he made a mistake in a moment of absolute exultation, without any bad intentions or bad faith. He said that he has a fantastic relationship with Hermoso and the other players. Rubiales is also being investigated by the RFEF, the Spanish Sports Council (CSD), and the Administrative Court for Sports (TAD) for possible violations of Spain's Sports Law, which sanctions sexist acts. He could face a ban from sport for between two and 15 years if found guilty.
