Karakalpakstan is a land of ancient cultures. The Khorezm oasis has been home to human settlements for more than three thousand years. The Khoresmians were one of the most advanced civilizations of Central Asia. They built irrigation canals, developed agriculture, and created a unique culture.

The Khoresmians were replaced by the Turkic Karakalpaks in the 12th century. The Karakalpaks are a Turkic people who have preserved their language and culture. The Karakalpaks have their own traditional music and dance, architecture, and cuisine.
