About our Rio Grande news
Latest news on the Rio Grande, a river that flows from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in the United States to the Gulf of Mexico, forming part of the border between the US and Mexico. It is the fifth longest river in North America and the 20th longest in the world, with a length of about 1,900 miles (3,060 km). The Rio Grande has a drainage basin of about 182,200 square miles (472,000 square km), which covers parts of seven US and Mexican states.
In May 2023, a new study revealed that the Rio Grande has lost about one-third of its flow over the past century due to human activities and climate change. The study warned that the river could dry up completely in some sections by 2100 if current trends continue.
